German Labor Minister Ursula von der Leyen is in the firing line after she threatened to break ranks in a vote in the German parliament. The vote concerned establishing quotas for women on company boards.
Her actions forced a key concession from her party and in particular from Angela Merkel. There are now reports that von der Leyen struck a deal with the opposition in advance. Many of her fellow conservatives are outraged.
