New reports say Jennifer Lopez may swoop in to replace Mariah Carey on American Idol this season—but not if Mimi has anything to do with it! Hey guys here's a reality singing show update for American Idol, here on ClevverMusic. The Hollywood Reporter revealed a dramatic plan by Fox producers to revamp its original singing show "American Idol" this season, which has seen lower than normal ratings. The hit show was supposedly planning to bring back last season's judge, J. Lo, to replace Mariah Carey on the panel mid-season. However, before the plan could come to fruition, THR reported that Mariah threatened legal action should such a swap out occur. However, Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe says he's never heard of this plan, "I have not been included in any conversation regarding replacing Mariah with Jen this season." So does that mean he's been in conversations regarding replacing Mariah with Jen next season? We'll have to wait and see. This news surprises us as Mariah seems loved by the contestants and fans and every time we've been in the audience watching the show live, Mariah is on her best behavior. While we love Nicki Minaj's quirky comments on the panel we would have guessed Fox would try to replace her instead of Mariah, due to her un-family friendly outfits and remarks. However, we think the problem with Idol this season is not the eclectic judges, but the theme weeks and song choices. To us, the themes could be more modern and vibrant to attract viewers, currently seeming outdated. So tell me you guys, do you guys think this replacing Mariah with JLo is a good idea—or should it stay as an Idol rumor? We of course will keep you updated with all the latest on Idol, I'm Misty Kingma in Hollywood thanks for watching ClevverMusic.
