It was the ultimate ladies night on American Idol with the Top 5 girls performing and judges Nicki and Mariah finally interacting on the show! What's up guys thank for tuning in to ClevverMusic on YouTube for your Season 12 Idol Recap. For the first time ever the Top 5 is filled with girls only and we're getting excited for our first female Idol in six years since Jordin Sparks. On the top 5 performances show each remaining gal had to choose two songs each, first song from their birth year and then a song of a "diva".
Candice Glover was one of the best of the night, first singing a soulful version of Paula Abdul's "Straight Up", a song from her birth year. We think it was an awesome choice of song and actually sounded better than the original in our opinion. But it was Candice's second song that has everyone talking, she bravely sang "When You Believe", the infamous Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston duet! Take a look at how she did.
Needless to say Mariah had tears in her eyes after that performance, and Candice received a standing ovation from all four judges. Nicki Minaj commented, "That is how you do a Mariah Carey Whitney Houston song!" What... is Nicki going to say something nice about Mariah? Yes! Nicki also said that no modern collaboration has topped that Mariah Whitney duet yet. Yup, Candice is now a diva.
She joins the two divas already on the Idol stage, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. The two judges haven't been seen talking or looking at each other since their infamous blowup fight during the audition rounds, until tonight. It was after Kree Harrison sang, "She Talks to Angels" by the Black Crowes that Nicki and Mariah got into their first argument on live TV. Nicki disagreed with Keith and Mariah who didn't like Kree's performance, Nicki saying it was great because it sounded like a current performance in 2013. She ends up telling Mariah to, "Simmer down, sir!" Take a look.
Lastly, in happier news we must discuss Angie Miller. She completely stole our hearts when she dedicated the Pretenders "I'll Stand By You" to Boston, in light of this week's tragedy. But for her second song she shocked us with a very divalicious performance of Beyonce's "Halo", take a look.
Angie surprised us with this song choice but boy did she wow us with that performance, a risk well worth taking if you ask us. She definitely looked and sounded like a diva and Nicki Minaj agreed saying afterwards, "I know for a fact Beyoncé is gonna watch that performance!" All right friends- the moment of truth! Tell me if you think Angie did Queen Beyoncé proud—and who will be going home tonight?! Thanks for watching our Idol Cap with the standout moments on the Top 5 performances show. I'm Misty Kingma see you soon with more Idol everything.
