I have been for over 2 years in Australia and I can so much relate to this. I have an Indian background and it's exactly the same for me. People just classify me as "Indian" and just look thru me. They are not really interested in who I am really. There's probably a pinch (if not a handful) of racism in this.
It's pretty hard to be gay by itself and on top of that you have to cope with indifference. I should say that it's pretty hard to be a non-Caucasian gay in Australia. At times I wonder if it's the same in Europe.
Interesting. I on the other hand love asian men lol. I'm dominican, and come from a culture in which racial, and cultural diversity is apreciated as a spiritual and human wealth.
My skin is smooth too haha. An I look like a blank man with white skin. I love being the way I am. All mixed as we al are in the spanish caribean.
We are so mixed our only race is the human race. And I love that. I also love asians. Specially the south east asians with darker skin lol.
This is great to hear. I've heard of the terms, definitely, and I hate them. Any gay man who would put down other gay men for their ETHNICITY obviously would be prejudice to all homosexuals if he wasn't gay, because he must be a prejudging man.
I've heard tons of people assuming that Asian gay guys MUST be bottoms, therefore often many bottoms aren't attracted to them, because that's just how gay guys work. It's a stereotype to think that they're all pretty close to being queens.
Thanks for posting this. I have been looking for it for years and could never afford the hefty academic prices. And for those asking it America, is not that much better than what is depicted, even in places like New York.
Quite well done. I did not realize so many Asian men felt the way that is depicted. I think the attitude in the United States might be better than in Australia. I do know since the conclusion of WWII and the Vietnam War that Amer-Asians (as they are called) are particularly physically attractive people--at least to me. Anyway, congrats on the film.
Great to see these issues that are every day reality for so many Asian gay men in Australia so well articulated. I wonder why the location is listed as United States? It seems to be part of a film made in 1997 in Sydney, Australia.
