The song was interspersed with film clips of performing at the Apollo Theater live in March 1968; Bobby Kennedy announcing his candidacy for president; President Lyndon Johnson declining the nomination for president for a second term; civil unrest and riots in response to the death of Dr. King; and civil rights marches.
James Brown: Man to Man was a concert film recorded live at the Apollo Theater. It was broadcast as an hour-long syndicated television special and is one of the first color recordings of James Brown.
Released as a single in 1968, "I Got a Feelin" reached #1 on the R&B chart and #6 on the pop chart. The Jackson 5 auditioned for Motown founder Berry Gordy in 1968 with a filmed performance of "I Got the Feelin'" with Michael Jackson at age 10 closely mimicking James Brown's vocal style and dance moves.
