On the first of the two day consultations to elect a new prime minister designate in Lebanon the nominee has already been chosen. Tamam Salam, son of former Lebanese premier Saeb Slam, received the 67 parliamentary votes required to be named. The March 14 alliance along with centrist Walid Jumblatt formally expressed their support for Salam from the presidential palace. Meanwhile the March 8 alliance which includes Hezbollah and its allies also gave backing to the same nominee.
