In this video I will discuss
What does Modafinil do

In short, Modafinil changes the way the brain reacts to various hormones
Modafinil is considered superior to
conventional stimulants
Because it doesn't affect heart rate, blood pressure
And it does not raise anxiety,
agitation or promote insomnia
Modafinil is believed to lack the side effects of classic stimulants like amphetamins
Due to the fact that it also influences
histamine levels
Modafinil increases histamine release in the hypothalamus
In the brain, histamine lowers susceptibility to convulsion, drug sensitization,
Denervation supersensitivity, ischemic lesions
and stress
Histamine is also involved in sleep regulation
And this is why Modafinil users
can sleep if they want to
Insomnia is a frequent side effect of amphetamines
Not all the effects of histamine are positive
Histamine triggers the inflammatory response
because
It is involved in the local immune response
Modafinil is a highly selective agonist of brain alpha-1 adrenergic receptors
This means it increases sensitivity to norepinephrine (or noradrenaline )
In other words,
The same quantity of norepinephrine will have a greater effect when Modafinil is used
GABA is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain
Modafinil inhibits the release of GABA, but
This normally happens with higher than normal doses
Modafinil also increases dopamine
release in the brain
And affects physiological
function in the gut
Modafinil produces an appetite reducing/
weight loss effect
Via action on the sympathetic nervous system (SNS)
A simplified way to think of the SNS is to view it as the bodies accelerator pedal
Modafinil may be very useful for some individuals and a health risk for others
Since everyone's brain chemistry is slightly different
Reactions with Modafinil can vary greatly among individuals
If you wish to try Modafinil you need to start with small doses and
Carefully monitor your reactions
Long term use of Modafinil
- or the earlier version Adrafinil -
Should be combined with blood tests and assessment of liver enzymes
In summary,
Modafinil operates by changing the sensitivity of receptors in the brain to hormones and neurotransmitters
By improving the sensitivity to the neurotransmitter norepinephrine,
It serves to increase attention
and promote wakefulness
Yet Modafinil rarely interferes with other chemical balances
And this is perhaps why it has a lower risk -and number- of potential side effects
In most situations,
I would advise against using Modafinil
But I believe many will try it anyway so you might as well have an idea of what to expect
