Lego Pulls Toy Over 'Anti-Islamic' Complaints

Lego pulls toys after "anti-Islamic" complaints.

It’s a fact that the Lego play set Jabba’s Palace is being phased out, but the toymaker and the Turkish Cultural Community are at odds as to why.

In January of this year controversy erupted among Austria’s Islamic population. Several citizens reached out to Lego requesting the toy be cut from its roster due to the offensive messages it contained.

Said a spokesperson for the TCA, “The game is pedagogical dynamite. It depicts Muslims as terrorists.”

Lego met last week with several people from the offended groups in Munich. After the gathering the chairman of the Turkish Cultural Community announced, "We want to thank and congratulate Lego for its decision to no longer produce…Jabba's Palace."

Lego said their decision to discontinue the item had nothing to do with racist claims or last week’s meeting. The company is simply carrying through with the already planned lifecycle of the toy.

Lego has always denied any racial commentary exists in Jabba’s Palace, saying it’s just a faithful depiction of the Star Wars films.
