Sr Chinarro (La Buena)

fa 5 anys67 views

Antonio Luque (Seville, 1970) left behind his past as a worker in a baked goods factory to become, with Sr. Chinarro, one of the founding fathers of modern Spanish indie rock music. His more recent albums no longer have, as he himself stated in EL PAÍS a few weeks back, "that naive, convoluted and slightly pretentious feel" of his initial works.

The song we're presenting in today's edition of The Furious Sessions, La buena, is precisely the opposite: a shameless, unerring love song, with that sardonic touch that so typifies Antonio Luque.

Recorded live at the Sol de Sants Studios in Barcelona, alongside members of La Habitación Roja and Tachenko, the song belongs to his most recent effort, Enhorabuena a los cuatro (Mushroom Pillow). In shy over two years, he has found time to release three records –one of which is a double album– and debut as a novelist. "Making a record a year isn't really that much. Hard copies will soon disappear. It's an act of communication, pure and simple", he explained recently.

In La buena, he again sings of love, "something invented by poets and priests; people who, more often than not, don't partake", he says. Yet always with the perspicacity that Luque has spent decades honing.
