A crab with 9-foot long claws arrives at Blackpool Sea Life Centre.

Most people wouldn’t consider a crab an attractive creature to look at.

Well, an absolutely massive, Japanese spider crab was taken to his new home at Blackpool Sea Life Centre.

With a 9-foot long claw span, he is being referred to as Britain’s biggest crab. Named ‘Big Daddy’, he seems to enjoy his new residence.

A supervisor at the center, Scott Blacker states “He’s in the tank and looking happy so that’s quite cool. We’ve chilled the tank to nine degrees so it’s nice and cold for him, and there’s plenty of things for him to climb on.”

His large tank houses a bubble window, allowing visitors to get a real close-up view of the creature. Although his age is yet to be determined, the center hopes to obtain a female spider crab so ‘Big Daddy’ can officially become one.

Frequenting the deep and cold waters of Japan, the Japanese spider crab is the largest of all known crabs in the world. Claw spans can reach up to 13 feet long.

Weighing between 35 and 44 pounds, the huge creatures can reportedly live to be 100 years old. Using those exceptionally long legs, they move very slowly, scavenging for food along the ocean floor.
