The Walking Dead's optically challenged Governor is about to get some competition on the big screen as eye-patched anti-hero Snake Plissken is once again set to escape from a post-apocalyptic city hellscape. Deadline reports that The Matrix producer Joel Silver has teamed with Studio Canal to reboot Escape From New York, the 1981 cult classic about a convict tasked with rescuing the president from a futuristic New York City that has been turned into a maximum security prison. The original film and its 1996 sequel Escape From L.A. both starred Kurt Russell as Snake. New Line was recently working on a reboot with Gerard Butler, Jeremy Renner and Tom Hardy eyed as potential stars, but the rights lapsed and Silver stepped in to try his hand at it. The plan is to first create an origin story for Snake which will be the first film of a potential trilogy. It's unclear where, or even if, the New York storyline would fit in. Another name mentioned as a possible star is Liam Neeson. I know most of us are pretty much over Hollywood's obsession with reboots and remakes, but is this one you'd be interested in seeing get made and if so, who would you like see land the role of Snake?
