German goverment steps back from NPD ban

Germany's federal government has decided not to add its weight to calls to ban a far-right party. Germany's 16 states have launched a joint bid to ban the NPD and hoped the federal government would lend its support. But junior partners in the governing coalition are thought to see the move as "unnecessary."
