The conservation group Sea Shepherd Australia is claiming success in its efforts against Japanese whaling this season.

Sea Shepherd spokesperson Bob Brown.

"It's been the lowest whale kill in Japanese Antarctic whaling history and the whaling fleet is now out of the Southern Ocean Sanctuary. It's headed north, it's nearly 200 kilometres (124 miles) now north of the 60th parallel."

Japanese officials have not confirmed the reports or that its whaling season is over.

Last week, Sea Shepherd Australia released video showing its ship, the Bob Barker, being squeezed between two Japanese vessels-- proof, its says, that the resulting collision was not their fault.

The group has been at odds with the Japanese whaling industry for years and has had several run-ins with the fishermen.
