Could this summer's Iron Man 3 be the last time we see Robert Downey Jr playing genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist Tony Stark on the big screen? I know it's impossible to imagine anyone else in the role. After all, Robert Downey Jr IS Tony Stark, but Iron Man 3 is the last film that RDJ is contractually obligated to play the character, so it's definitely a possibility. When asked about the future of Tony Stark, Marvel head Kevin Feige previously compared the character to James Bond & Batman saying they have more Tony Stark tales to tell, but plan on focusing on one or two movies at a time. Of course, both James Bond and Batman have been played by numerous actors on screen, so could the same happen to Stark? In a recent interview in Empire Magazine, Feige wouldn't confirm whether or not Robert Downey Jr would be returning for additional movies, but did promise that Tony Stark isn't going anywhere saying quote, "Tony's going to carry on. Avengers 2 already has a release date!" So what does Tony Stark himself have to say about his future plans for the character? RDJ teased that the only thing he's ever let go had claw marks in it, but wouldn't commit to another go round as Stark saying quote, "There's a little bit of soul reclamation going on. I feel that the first time I played Tony, I did it best...The affinity with Tony now is: how do you sustain something? I'm not stupid, I like to play ball, I love the company, I love the character, and the business side of things, I'm not too picky about that either." As for the possibility that another character could someday take his place, RDJ said it might be the best thing in the world for him if that were to happen saying he doesn't want to overstay his welcome. So what do you think? Has Downey Jr overstayed his welcome or do you want to see him return for The Avengers 2 or even The Avengers 3 and possibly a 4th Iron Man movie? Is there another actor you could see taking over the role? Give us your thoughts below or tweet us @ClevverMovies. I'm Erin White, thanks for watching!
