Oscar Pistorius spent a second consecutive day in a Pretoria court for a bail hearing Wednesday, as he stands accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

As the drama unfolds in court - with defense and prosecutors offering contradictory reports of what transpired on Valentine's Day last week - South Africans are following closely.

Pretoria residents had mixed reactions to the developments.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) WOMAN IN THE STREET, JACQUELINE PRETORIUS, SAYING:

"It is very difficult to accept it because he was a role model, and I think about all the children who looked up to him and saw him as a role model, so it is very difficult for me to accept this, but I hope that justice will be served in court and the wrong party will go and do his time."

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MAN IN THE STREET, AMUKELANI BALOYI, SAYING:

"It was a planned game that he did and according to me I doubt if I want him to be out of the prison. Because usually in South Africa, we must promote a motto to embrace our women and to respect our women as far as women and children's rights are concerned."

The bail hearing is expected to conclude by the end of the week.

During this time millions in South Africa and beyond will continue to be gripped by developments, with local, international and social media delivering blow by blow reports of the proceedings.
