Al Qarra - At the confluence of the Niger and Bani rivers lies the city of Mopti, central Mali’s economic powerhouse. Life revolves around these waters, with the economy of this so-called Malian Venice relying almost exclusively on fishing. The political crisis in the north of the country, however, has dealt a severe blow over the past year to the economy of Mopti and with it, the entire region.
