This bridge was constructed for the University of Calgary ENCI 461 Structural Design competition. It smashed the existing record for load to weight ratio by 50%. It held a total of 1465 Newtons across a 1 meter span. This was extremely close to the predicted value of 1500 N.
Exhibiting a radical double arch (fixed - fixed) this bridge does an excellent job of distributing the point load throughout the entire structure. Taking advantage of the material properties of Styrene (highly susceptible to bucking but strong in tension). It was an excellent project taken on by some promising young engineers.
