Topless activists disrupt Berlin film festival opening

The sixty-third Berlin film festival - often referred to as the Berlinale - kicked off Thursday night with a flurry of snow - not uncommon during the festival.

As is usual, it also featured some good old fashioned Hollywood glamour - this year in the shape of Jane Fonda. But while some starlets decided to show skin for the sake of glamour, others decided to show more for the sake of a cause.

Three young activists from the Ukrainian feminist movement Femen went topless to protest against female circumcision in Africa.

They were wrestled to the ground while shouting that 'one girl is circumcised every 19 minutes.' This isn't the first time the Berlinale has been hit by naked activists. In 2004, several students bared all to protest against university fees on the festival's closing night.
