The first official behind-the-scenes photo from Thor: The Dark World has hit the web and the executive producer of the film is spilling the beans on the up-coming sequel.
We've seen many photos from the set of the Thor sequel: Chris Hemsworth as Thor battling unseen forces, Christopher Eccleston as Malekith with his futuristic armor surrounded by an army of Dark Elves, just to name a few. But now we have our very first official behind-the-scene photo!
In this photo Hemsworth is hanging out on set in his warrior garb talking with director Alan Taylor. Ya, we've pretty much seen it all but it being official makes is cooler, right? While this picture doesn't give us much about what we can expect from the movie, Marvel Studios executive producer Craig Kyle spoke with Empire Magazine and dished out some new details. If you're spoiler movie sensitive, you might want to pick another one of our clips.
About the sequel Kyle said, "Like in Indiana Jones, while there's high stakes and high danger, there's always fun. We have to constantly redefine what a superhero film is or it'd just exhaust the audience. So Iron Man is the James Bond-y, classic suave action hero; Captain America's the period piece; Hulk is the monster movie; Avengers, the disaster movie; and Thor is the science-fiction epic."
In terms of the timeline, Kyle mentions that Thor 2 will take place one year after the events of The Avengers and two years after the first Thor film and Thor is 'now a full-time general'. At the beginning of the movie we see that Asgard is destroyed and The Nine Realms plagued by invaders known as The Maraunders and it is then that Malekith and the Dark Elves return and wreak devastating revenge.
Kyle said, "By bringing director Alan Taylor into the mix, with his expertise on The Sopranos, Mad Men and Game of Thrones, we came up with a take that allows us to get more into the nooks and crannies of Asgard and its people. We spend more time on the ground with the commoners, as opposed to in the palace. Thor is, until Guardians of the Galaxy hits, by far our most wild, fringe Marvel piece."
Thor: The Dark World hits theaters November 7.
So we have some new details about the film -- anything excite you? What are you hoping to see in the sequel, we're just a few months from the start of Phase 2 so the next couple months are going to be pretty exciting.
