French and Malian forces have regained control of Gao, the strategic city in Northern Mali.

On Saturday they seized the only bridge across the Niger river leading to the city.

They then took control of the international airport.

Fighters linked to Al Qaeda have occupied the city since April.

Al Jazeera's Mohammed Adow reports from the Mali-Mauritania border.
