More casting news today for the highly anticipated Vampire Diaries spin-off -- fans of the original family are going to love this scoop. According to Deadline, Daniel Gillies is officially set to reprise his role as Elijah on the upcoming pilot. We brought you initial info on this developing story last week, noting that fan favorite Joseph Morgan will be the show's star where Klaus QUOTE "returns to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans -- a town he helped build centuries ago -- and is reunited with his diabolical former protégé Marcel." We're guessing that Elijah must've played an important part in assisting Klaus with developing New Orleans AND we also know that Elijah will have to side with Marcel's enemies to keep Klaus in line and help him find redemption. As of now, Elijah the only other member of the original family we have casting news on, with Daniel Gillies explaining to Deadline that he doesn't know what's going on with Rebekah, who is played by Claire Holt, as of yet. Phoebe Tonkin, who plays a werewolf on TVD, is also set to star. The spin-off series, currently titled "The Originals," is expected to be set up so to speak via the April 25th episode of "The Vampire Diaries." Big congrats go out to Daniel Gillies, who -- and here's a fun fact -- actually stars on medical drama in Canada "Saving Hope." If "The Originals" gets picked up to series, he plans to do double duty and work on both shows! Let us know if you're excited to see what this potential spin-off is all about.
