Nepal's government is facing growing pressure to punish human rights offenders that operated during the country's decade-long civil war. Nepal's army, which is fiercely protective of its UN peacekeeping work, faces serious allegations of crimes that have never been addressed and rights activists worry that there might be more alleged war criminals serving as peacekeepers.
Earlier this month, a Nepalese army colonel was charged in the UK, accused of torturing prisoners.
But so far, the UN's Department of Peacekeping Operations says that weeding out suspected abusers is not its job.
