Bushfires threaten parts of Australia

Bushfires continued to pose a threat in the northern and western parts of New South Wales, Australia on Sunday (January 13), while cooler temperatures reduced the risk in southern areas of the state.
Local media said that lightning ignited more than 100 new fires across the state.
Helicopters were brought in to fight a fire near the town of Tamworth, while rapid response teams were on hand to evacuate people if necessary.
A large blaze in the Warrumbungle National Park near the town of Coonabarabran destroyed at least two homes, according to local media.
In central Australia, fires were easing in the region around the outback town of Alice Springs. Fire crews were conducting a back burn operation, with the fires not posing an immediate threat to property or livestock, local media reported.
