三国志II 天翔ける英雄たち(後編)

昭和61年8月22日、読売系列で放送された。製作は『どらえもん』や『美味しんぼ』のシンエイ動画。前作は赤壁の戦いで曹操が敗北するまでを描いたのを引き継ぎ、今作はその後の天下三分の計までとなり、本シリーズは完結した。劉備の妻・麗花を演じる平野文が当時、涙で台本を読むのが大変だったと語っていた。城の炎上シーンや女の子が関羽の名を叫ぶシーンなど見所が満載。さらには劉備・関羽・張飛がめざした理想の国造りへの想いを奏でるエンディングが涙を誘う。
解説は、今は亡き水野晴郎氏。本作が何故これほどまでに心をゆさぶるのか？ その理由について氏が語るようにそこにロマンがあるから・・・かもしれないが、それだけではないだろう。
余談ですが、不定期で本編終了時に『水野晴郎の映画がいっぱい』という小さなコーナーがあったが、本作の終了時の同コーナーでは『スターウォーズ帝国の逆襲』のTV初放送の紹介であった。
動画は時間の関係から前後編に分かれる。現在のように映像がデジタル化もされておらずビデオしかなかった時代。派手なCGもないが、昨今では簡略化・省略しがちな殺陣をごまかさずにきっちりと描いた映像は、現代のアニメに慣らされた目には強烈なインパクトを与えることでしょう。
これだけの良作が未だDVD化すらされていないのは不思議でならない。ぜひとも多くの人に最後まで見て頂き、かつてこのような作品があったということを、そして少なからず心に残るものがあるならうれしいかぎりです。
