Eddie Bauer First Ascent Guide Glove Lite [Review]

    by jlukasavige

It's glove review week from Ski Cooper near Leadville, CO and I'm bringing you the best. At the end of this series I'll bring all the gloves together into one review to tell you which I like best and why.

As the weather warmed up to about 10 degrees fahrenheit I switched over to the First Ascent Guide Gloves Lite. The first time I wore these out it was even colder and I was ice climbing. It was five degrees fahrenheit and these gloves were simply not warm enough.

Like their big brother, the Guide Lite is durable, but lacking insulation. That makes for a great early or late season glove, but not for cold ice climbing or mid-winter skiing. Regardless, that's not what they were built for.

While the gloves come with Nikwax waterproofing, I've yet to apply it. My goal was to test them to their breaking point, but I never found found it. My hands were always toasty warm and dry, even after spending a full day in the backcountry.
