Awards season officially kicked off as The Palm Springs International Film Festival held its annual awards gala on Saturday (January 5) and a who's who of Hollywood A-listers were on hand for the celebration.

The cast of "Argo," including star and director Ben Affleck, received the Ensemble Performance Award.

Actress Sally Field received the career achievement award, honoring a career that has spanned nearly 50 years.

"Silver Linings Playbook" star Bradley Cooper was awarded with the best actor award, while the female equivalent went to Naomi Watts, for her performance in "The Impossible."

Tom Hanks was on hand to present the best director award to Robert Zemeckis, director of "Flight."

The Palm Springs International Film Festival is considered by many to be the unofficial start of Hollywood's 'awards season' - celebrating the directors and stars that will be walking the carpets of the Golden Globes, Oscars, and SAG awards, among others, in the upcoming weeks.
