Syrian refugees in Jordan watch President Bashar al-Assad call for A war to defend the nation and a pledge to hold a reconciliation conference
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SYRIAN REFUGEES IN JORDAN WHO IS HIDING HIS FACE, ABU MOHAMMED, SAYING:
"Bashar's speech made no sense at all, he says he wants reform, his reform is in the form of rockets and missiles into the hearts of towns and cities. Innocent people are injured despite the fact that they are not guilty of any crimes."
Hundreds of thousands of Syrian have fled their homes -- finding safety in refugee camps.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SYRIAN REFUGEE AT THE ZAATARI CAMP, BILAL, SAYING:
"A peaceful solution is out of the question. After this much blood there is no peace. Our only request is Bashar's head."
The UN says 60,000 people have been killed in the conflict that started as a popular uprising in March 2011.
