Store to Have Silent Shopping Area with Meditation Area

Selfridges is launching a silent shopping area.

Busy shopping malls are often filled with rambunctious teenagers, screaming children and adults noisily babbling away on cell phones. Well, the UK based, Selfridges has come up with a solution to this nuisance - by launching a silent shopping area dubbed ‘No Noise’.

The quiet area will be located in the store's Ultra Lounge and customers will be asked to remove shoes and leave cell phones at the entrance. The space gives off a relaxing and tranquil vibe.

It will also offer meditation sessions. The creative director for Selfridges states that the area “invites customers to find a moment of peace in a world where we are bombarded by a cacophony of information and stimulation.”

Earlier this year, a restaurant in Los Angeles began motivating patrons to cease cell phone disturbance. Eva Restaurant started offering a 5% discount on the bill to customers who would leave their phones at the front desk.
Owner, Mark Gold says, “It's about two people sitting together and just connecting, without the distraction of a phone”.
