Syria envoy Brahimi tries again

U.N and Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi meets with Syrian president Bashar al-Assad in Damascus - and says he told him the situation is "still a reason for worry".

Brahimi was forced to drive to the Syrian capital through Lebanon because of fighting around the main Damascus airport.

He told reporters his meeting with Assad dealt with general conditions and the two had discussed potential solutions to the crisis.

"I told him what I was seeing abroad and about the meetings I had with different officials," he said.

"We hope that all sides work towards a solution as the Syrian people want."

The meeting was Brahimi's third with Assad with violence in the country escalating significantly since the last one.

Activists say at least 60 people were killed in an airstrike on a bakery in the country's central Hama province on Sunday - seen here in amateur video which Reuters cannot independently verify.

Rights groups say more 44,000 people have been killed since the revolt against Assad began 21 months ago.
