Flooding in the UK causes chaos ahead of Christmas

STORY: Flooding continued to devastate parts of southwest England, northeast Scotland and Wales on Sunday, caused by days of rain falling on already saturated earth.
In the English county of Devon, some home owners were forced to evacuate their properties in the village of Stoke Canon as rivers and streams burst their banks.
Some residents said they were preparing themselves for the prospect of spending Christmas in temporary accommodation.
Local rail networks had also been disrupted, with delays and cancellations after water cascaded over railway tracks.
The flooding could not have come at a worse time, with many people relying on the rail network for Christmas travel.
As the flood waters receded in the Scottish city of Aberdeen, residents who had their properties inundated had been left with a layer of thick mud. Shop owners could be seen sweeping it onto the streets as emergency workers pumped pools of water from the streets back in to the river.
While there was some reprieve from the rain on Sunday, forecasters are expecting more downfalls on Sunday night and into Monday. Forecasters have warned of the potential for more flooding around Devon and Cornwall in England early in the week.
