Town Bans Feeding Pets at Night

An Ohio town bans feed animals at night.

Feeding a pet sounds like an everyday, mundane task, however in Barberton, Ohio, it is illegal… at least at night. The city council recently imposed a ban on feeding pets outdoors at night.

The new ordinance makes the act a minor misdemeanor, even on a pet owner’s own private property. Outdoor pet food must also be cleaned up before nightfall. The only exception to the rule is if the animal is in an enclosed pen.

Anyone who breaks these seemingly bizarre rules will be slapped with a $50 fine. According to the Barberton mayor the new ban is in place solely to help domesticated animals.

He speaks of animal feed stating “It attracts unwanted animals at night: raccoons, possums and skunks. There are safety issues if there are rats or rodents running around.”

Many local residents are unhappy with the new ruling. This isn’t the first strange ban.

Earlier this year, a law which prohibited people from wearing bathing suits was repealed. Residents and visitors of Asbury Park, New Jersey, were previously not allowed to showcase swimsuits while on the boardwalk.
Prior to being repealed, it had been in effect since 1958, punishing violators with a fine up to $2,000 and 3 months behind bars.
