In Damacus, still held by the Bashar al-Assad's troops, residents wait in line for bread outside a bakery.

Food and fuel shortages in the city are common as trucks transporting goods drive along war torn roads.

Residents throughout the country are bracing for still more conflict as the civil war approaches the two year mark.

Free Syrian Army rebels have made some gains..

Clutching their riffles, these young fighters say they are close to taking over a military airbase near the Turkish border.

As winter weather settles in, the outcome of this bitter civil war is far from clear - although more prayer and more suffering seem inevitable.
