Fighters slain in Syria returned to Lebanon
  • 11 years ago
The bodies of four gunmen killed in Syria are ferried across the border into Lebanon on Sunday.

They were among 14 Lebanese and Palestinian fighters from northern Lebanon killed in Syria two weeks ago by forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

This is the second shipment of bodies - last week Syria returned three slain fighters to Lebanon.

And here in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, relatives carry the coffins through the streets after they were transported from the frontier.

Tripoli has been the site of repeated clashes as Syria's civil war spills across the border into its Mediterranean neighbour.

Tripoli is a majority Sunni city, but is also host to a substantial Alawite minority - the same sect to which Bashar al-Assad belongs.
