125-Mile Long Traffic Jam in Russia

A highway in Russia was recently home to a 125-mile traffic jam.

Nobody enjoys being stuck in traffic.

Media reports stated some drivers in Russia recently found themselves completely helpless during a mind-boggling 125-mile-long traffic jam.

The backup lasted over the course of a weekend, taking up a large part of a highway between two major cities: Moscow and St. Petersburg. After several days of snow, the area was very foggy and roads were still snow covered and slippery, making it difficult for drivers to safely operate.

After nearly two days, only one lane on the highway had been cleared in each direction, allowing vehicles to crawl forward at speeds of 5 miles per hour.

On top of that, nearby gas stations ran out of fuel while eateries jacked up prices for stranded drivers.

A tent was set up, offering warmth, food, drinks and psychological support to frustrated travelers.

In 2010, another major traffic jam made headlines.

Affected vehicles headed towards Beijing were stuck in a 62-mile backup that lasted 9 days. The disastrous jam occurred in part due to break downs, road work and heavy traffic.
