Watch Andre Berto vs Robert Guerrero Live Streaming Saturday 11-24-2012
Robert Guerrero (30-1-1, 18 KO’s) is going into Saturday’s fight with a lot of self belief that he’s going to be able to successfully defend his WBC interim welterweight title against Andre Berto (28-1, 22 KOs) in their fight in Ontario, California.
Guerrero, 29, is seemingly immune to the fact that boxing fans mostly see him as over-matched for this fight and doomed to lose. Fans don’t seem to care that Guerrero beat previously undefeated WBC Silver welterweight champion Selcuk Aydin in his last fight in July. Fans don’t care that Aydin was supposedly the most avoided fighter in the welterweight division.
They’re not buying that. Fans are focusing on how weak Guerrero looked in that fight and how tired he was in the last four rounds in winning a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 116-112, 116-112 and 117-111. Guerrero won but he didn’t show the kinds of skills that convinced the public that he can beat a better fighter than Aydin like Berto.
Guerrero said in an interview at the Boxing Channel “I’ve experienced so many different styles [of fighting]. I’m here to fight and I’m not playing around.”
Guerrero sees himself as being able to adapt to any style even a style such as Berto’s, which is a really difficult one due to his fast hands and big time power. Guerrero’s method of adapting to Berto will likely involve putting a lot of pressure on him, and throwing a lot of punches. Victor Ortiz found success using that style to beat Berto by a 12 round unanimous decision a year ago.
Ortiz is a lot different than Guerrero, however. He’s much faster with bigger power and a naturally bigger frame. Ortiz didn’t start out as a featherweight like Guerrero and move his way up the divisions to arrive at welterweight. Ortiz was a light welterweight that out-grew the division and moved after that. So it’s going to be a lot harder for Guerrero to find the same kind of success that Ortiz did because he doesn’t have the speed and the power that Ortiz had in giving Berto a lot of problems. Berto isn’t going to be troubled by a tall, slow guy with no power like Guerrero. That’s not going to worry him unless Guerrero finds some power somewhere.
