The Jerusalem Great Synagogue, founded in 1982, is a very impressive and magnificent structure. The lobby foyer is paved in luxurious marble and houses an impressive Mezuzah Collection from all around the world (i.e. an encased piece of parchment inscribed with a Jewish prayer affixed to the doorframe in Jewish homes). The Main Synagogue includes 1,400 cushioned seats and it rises tens of meters high. Beside the Aron Kodesh (Torah repository) is a vast stage used by the choir, which accompanies the Cantor. This stage can go up and down as necessary. The Torah repository is made of marble and above it is located the breathtaking main stained-glass window, combining verses, images, names and Kabalistic elements. From the ceiling hangs a dazzling chandelier, weighing three and a half tons, and there is also an opening skylight, for couples who want to have their wedding ceremony under the sky.
