The 2012 American Music Awards were held tonight at the Nokia Theater and Nicki Minaj and Justin Bieber led the pack with the most wins- here's your winner recap! You're watching your music news source on YouTube, ClevverMusic. I was at the red carpet of the 2012 AMAs tonight so I got to see all the action and talk to your favorite stars before the big show. This 40th Anniversary event had no official host, but there was no shortage of stars with Nicki Minaj, Christina Aguilera, Usher, Kesha and more performing it was one epic award show.
The show also included a tribute to the late host Dick Clark by singer Stevie Wonder, a brand new Favorite Artist- Electronic Dance Music category, and flashbacks throughout the show of great AMA moments in history.
Now for the moment of truth: the winners! Award winners were determined by you and YOUR votes only online. Going into the show, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj led with the most nominations of anyone (four each), while Justin Bieber, Drake, Maroon 5, One Direction, and Usher each received three AMA nominations.
The biggest winner of the night was Justin Bieber, winning every award he was nominated for including "Favorite Male Artist- Pop/Rock", "Favorite Album- Pop/Rock", and the most coveted award of the night "Artist of the Year" to which he brought him Mom on stage for. This isn't Justin's first time winning this award; he took it back in 2010 when he was just 16.
Second highest winner of the night with two awards was our girl Nicki Minaj winning "Favorite Artist- Rap/ Hip Hop" and "Favorite Album- Rap/Hip Hop" for "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded." Of course she plugged her new album coming out tomorrow in her acceptance speech. One big upset of the night was Carly Rae Jepsen taking "New Artist of the Year" over boy band One Direction.
Other notable winners are Beyonce winning "Favorite Female Artist- Soul/ R&B" and Katy Perry winning "Favorite Female Artist- Pop/Rock". Congrats to all the winners!
