Hello, next week MEPs meet in Brussels for a committee week. One last push before the break! On Tuesday and Wednesday, there’ll be debate about regional policy after 2014, or more precisely about cohesion policy. Every year tens of billions of euros are transferred to the poorest regions to fund infrastructure and development projects. The stakes are high. More than 3,000 amendments have been tabled. Cohesion policy is a major financial instrument of European solidarity. Organised crime is increasingly present in Europe, so the EU has decided to fight it. A parliamentary committee has been created for the purpose. It will organise its first public hearing on Tuesday and Wednesday. On the agenda: prevention, investigation and crackdown. The mandate of the CRIM Committee is to fight criminal organisations in Europe. Victims of crime will not be forgotten either. The Justice Committee should adopt new measures reinforcing their rights Tuesday. Finally, a greener and more ecological Europe is still a priority for the EU. The Industry Committee should vote on energy efficiency on Wednesday. Parliament and the states already made a provisional agreement in June. The new law would oblige the states to intensify their energy saving efforts, especially through the renovation of buildings. As a reminder, the EU’s objective is to improve energy efficiency by 20% by 2020. Have a nice week.
