Dead Birds Found to Have Alcohol in Liver

Blackbirds are discovered dead following alcohol intoxication from berries.

There have been many recent stories involving birds mysteriously dropping from the sky and falling to their deaths. However a recent report suggested an odd reason

More than ten birds were discovered at a school playground in Cumbria, United Kingdom. It was clear that some of them suffered traumatic injuries and an after-death analysis of one bird revealed that pure alcohol was in its liver

Researchers believe that the physical injuries were encountered in flight, due to intoxication from consuming fermented berries. All of the dead birds had eaten berries from a rowan tree.

On a more positive note, one living blackbird was discovered in the same area. Although the bird was disoriented and shaky on its feet, wildlife workers nursed it back to health.

Several months ago, residents of Millville, New Jersey watched as dozens of small black birds with red-tipped wings fell from the sky for approximately 60 minutes. The aftermath of the incident left roughly 80 dead birds in a small neighborhood, covering the streets in blood.
