Obama, Republican Christie tour storm-hit New Jersey

Putting aside partisan differences, U.S. President Barack Obama and Republican Governor Chris Christie tour storm-stricken parts of New Jersey Wednesday. The two took in scenes of the aftermath of superstorm Sandy.

Despite being a top surrogate for Obama's rival Mitt Romney, Christie kept up his praise for Obama.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) REPUBLICAN NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR CHRIS CHRISTIE, SAYING:

"I can not thank the President enough for his personal concern and compassion for the state and for the people of our state."

Obama, who suspended campaign events since Sunday, has overseen federal relief efforts and taken pains to show Americans he is focused on handling a major natural disaster

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, SAYING:

"Our hearts go out top the families who have lost loved ones. It is true that because of some good preparation, the loss if life was kept lower than it might have been. But for those individual families, obviously their world has been torjn apart. And we need to make sure that everyone who has lost a loved one knows they are in our thoughts and prayers.

Obama is set to resume campaigning on Thursday with visits to Nevada and Colorado, followed by stops on Friday in Ohio.
