Last June, Qatar's legislative assembly passed a bill that once signed, will not only seriously comprise media activities, but will forbid any criticism of the ruler of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Rights groups have slammed the proposed law saying it is inconsistent with the country’s claim of being a model for free expression in the region.
