A man sues pesky telemarketers asking them to pay for his time.
A man in Britain has successfully sued telemarketing cold callers after recording the phone calls and sending the company an invoice that charged them about 16 dollars per minute the callers spent talking to him on the phone.
The company wouldn’t pay him so he filed a suit and won in small claims court.
Now he’s encouraging other people who are bothered by this marketing scheme to take action.
He has started a website called saynotocoldcalls.com
The marketing firm AAC paid the man over 300 dollars plus a 40 dollar court fee, for taking up 19 and a half minutes of his time, trying to tell him how he can get thousands of dollars of insurance refunds.
For many years, telemarketers and debt collectors have mercilessly phoned consumers, but more and more people are fighting back against the calling firms. Earlier this year, a Boston man sued a debt collection agency.
The male alleged that auto dial phone calls from the company harassed him and invaded his privacy. A lawyer for the plaintiff stated “one thing I’ve noticed is that more and more consumers are starting to learn about their rights with regard to the law”.
