This film draws on my Origin of the Beginning series of photographs, installations and videos based on childhood memories to thematically and narratively develop my own personal style of self-portrait.Five people are seated around a table: my father and mother, my brother and sister, and myself. The room is a life-size installation in which everything, including the family members, is covered with thousands of dark-brown wooden blocks. At first glance they seem to be at peace (a perfect family unit), but this soon becomes doubtful as the figures are unrecognisable and located in an abstract environment far removed from reality.Dimly lit and dark in colour this claustrophobic and sombre film exudes a profound sense of loneliness with the awkward silence and dark colour further suggesting underlying tensions and unexpressed emotions.
