A major political row has erupted over Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) backed Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee's (SGPC) move to honour late General Arun Shridhar Vaidya's assassins and refer them as martyrs. Vaidya as the Army Chief in 1984 had designed and supervised the controversial Operation Bluestar. In 1986, he was shot dead by pro-Khalistani militants. The duo, who killed him was sentenced to death for the killing but the SGPC's action has raised serious questions. Should the Punjab government stay quiet over the issue at a time when the nation is battling the re-emergence of pro-Khalistani forces?
