    A 14 year-old girl, shot in the head by a Taliban gunman, is in a stable condition in Peshawar after surgeons worked for hours to remove the bullet.

    Malala Yousafzai, a campaigner for girls rights, was gunned down as she left school in Pakistan's Swat Valley by a single assailant.

    Two other girls were injured in the attack, one remains in a critical condition.
