Sundarakanda is the story of a conservative Indian woman trying to get by in a land that she is not accustomed to. Sneha is a classical dancer and theatre artist who grows up in a traditional south Indian family. Her father, Bhaskar Rao is a Post Master who worked very hard to make sure his family is comfortable and never in dire situations. Sneha's wedding gets fixed with Ajay, a casino owner who lives with his parents and sister in America. Sneha gets married to Ajay and goes to America to settle there. She tries to get used to the life there, but the American culture proves too much for her. All the clubbing and overtly expressive sexual overtones disgust her. On top of it all, she realizes that there is something that Ajay and his family are trying hard to hide from her. What secret are they hiding and what happens to Sneha in this foreign land, forms the crux of the story.
