There were tears of joy in the West Bank and Gaza on Tuesday as friends and relatives welcomed back Palestinian prisoners freed by Israel. Thousands gathered outside the Palestinian presidential compound in the West Bank city of Ramallah to celebrate the moment. Many were reunited with relatives who had been held in Israeli jails for years. Large crowds also waited on the outskirts of east Jerusalem for returning prisoners. Some ran alongside the convoy of vehicles apparently carrying freed prisoners.
