Pristine Conditions On Offer For Day 3 Of The Telstra Drug Aware Pro Margaret River

MARGARET RIVER, WA/Australia (Wednesday, March 21, 2012) -- Yesterday the world's best surfers put on an epic show at Surfer's Point Margaret River for the opening Round of the Men's Telstra Drug Aware Pro. With Kelly Slater (USA), 11 x ASP World Champion earning the day's highest heat total and Taj Burrow (AUS), the local hero, sneaking through a very tight heat.

Today conditions have improved further with an increase in swell size, quality and much more favourable winds, meaning that the surfers and surf fans are in for a great day of surfing action.

Pritamo Ahrendt, ASP Head Judge for the Drug Aware Pro is looking forward to seeing the surfers take on the waves at Margaret River today, and gave an insight into how the judging panel apply the criteria to the Margaret River waves.

"It's 6 to 8 foot with strong offshore winds which is really great conditions for Margaret River," Ahrendt said. "We have different things that we look for in our criteria and a place like Margaret River leans towards commitment and degree of difficulty. It's often a big and challenging kind of wave that offers solid sections and speed power and flow are essential at a wave like this. It often only has one or two big sections that offer big turns, so we want to see people utilise those sections and perform some major manoeuvres."
