Lava Buster #14: Ninja Scroll
"Ninja...VANISH!"

Ninja Scroll is often considered a classic in the realm of anime. Honestly, it's a good film, but full of flaws; even though it has violent, intense, and kick-ass fight scenes, not to mention unique character designs, the story is predictable and cliche-ridden, the dialogue is crappily written/handled, the character development is null and void (to some extent), and I am repulsed by its sexist/misogynistic aura.
Is it perfect? Perfection doesn't exist; it's also a dangerous, worthless human-made ideal which doesn't lead to any real progress. Better question: does it have flaws? See above paragraph. Do the flaws prevent from any sort of enjoyment? Hell no. You're saying it's good then? Absolutely! Is it worth seeing more than once? Personally, no, I don't think so (just to say to your friends that you saw the Ninja Scroll movie is sufficient).
Ninja Scroll, along with Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence and Canaan, are the only creative installments I've reviewed that I've thoroughly enjoyed (despite their respective flaws; Halo Legends is mediocre, though mildly enjoyable nonetheless). And yes, I have seen the 13-episode Ninja Scroll series; I thought it was okay...not great, but not terrible, either. As for Ninja Resurrection, I haven't seen it, so I can't formulate a valid opinion on the matter.
Lava Buster is a series of anime (and non-anime) reviews which contain brutal, honest, and hardcore commentary; these reviews are made solely for INSIGHT and ENTERTAINMENT...and NOT for monetary gain. All clips, including live and creative media footage, adhere to Fair Use. Comments, and constructive criticism, are welcome and appreciated. Enjoy the video.
