McCain slams Annan on Syria diplomacy
US Senator John McCain has said that other countries must aid Syrian rebels and that special envoy Kofi Annan's call for dialogue with the government of Bashar al-Assad makes him "wonder what planet [Annan] is residing on".
McCain said he would like to see military intervention in the "unfair fight" between rebels and Assad's forces from a coalition similar to the one that acted in Libya and involved Arab and European nations and the United States.
"The door is always open for Assad to reach a political settlement, the record is very clear of his obstinacy so far," McCain said.
